How do I save, capture video from TV directly on my pc without activating the USB ports on my TiVo?

I Direct TV with a hard drive upgraded, but I want to know if there is a way to record / burn items from my cable connection without to buy the upgrade high-end that lets me connect to my TIVO wirelesly. Can I connect my PC to my TV Direcct online and save on my hard dirrectly hard? any input would help, Thanks, Sparky.

There are video capture devices that take inputs from a video source. I have DTV and I too can run a composite video directly from my box to a capture card. Works the same way with capture cards that use TV tuners that box RF output to a tuner usually channel 2 or 3. Not as good as the composite connection tho;) Of course, unless you have several boxes you can use the connection that your TV does not use ... So if you have a composite connection to your TV you can not run on your PC at the same time, you could, but adding more hardware. What I do is show any Tivo that I want to spend to the computer and connect the composite connection to my PC and read the Tivo and then capture it. But what works for you.
